Hi David,
Do you have any proof that Emma McDonald was actually Cinderellas daughter. I have been trying to confirm this and have been unable to do so.
I have letters here written by Cinderellas niece Anna Holden and she names all of Cinderellas children and Emma is not mentioned.
Cinderella had 2 full sisters and a brother if you are interested, and 3 half sisters and a half brother

Debbie:

I do not have proof that Emma McDonald is the daughter of Cinderella Mahar -- only the fact that Emma "McDonald," age 6, is listed with Cinderella and Charles Mahar in the 1860 census of Pembroke, and Emma "Mahar," age 17, is listed with them in the 1870 census of Calais. It would appear that Emma was raised as their child and adopted the Mahar surname. Further research may turn up more conclusive proof of Emma's relationship to Cinderella, but lacking that, the existing census evidence suggests that Emma was Cinderella's daughter by a previous marriage, and that is what I have concluded here. One piece of information that may tell us what we need to know, but that I haven't had the opportunity to research yet, is Emma's death record. Or the marriage records for Pembroke or Dennysville might reveal an earlier marriage for Cinderella to this unknown McDonald. There was a McDonald family in that area at the time. Hope this answers your question.

David

Hi David,
In the 1870 census for Calais Emma is listed as Emma Marshall, There was a Carrie Mahar who was living with them, Carrie was Cinderellas half sister, a full sister to my great grandfather Edward Mahar.
Carrie married Thomas McCullough.
I have checked the Pembroke records for another marriage for Cinderella, but have been unable to find any.
Emma could have been born out of wedlock, but even that don't add up because from 1850 Cinderella was living with Charles Marshall and his family.
Cinderella stayed in Pembroke with them after her father married Susan Dow of New Brunswick. None of his children got along with Susan. Her sisters Naomi and Emeline end up going to Mass. and her brother Sylvanus does come to St. George after his marriage, but by then John Preble is already dead.
John and Susan made their home in St. George N.B. after their marriage and then Carrie their daughter goes and lives in Calais with Cinderella.
Emma was said to have died at Charlotte, so I wonder where I would look for her death record. Charlotte is very small and I doubt if they even have a town office. It's not in Calais because I have looked there.
I do believe that Emma was raised as their daughter, but I would like to know her parentange.
Debbie
