I am trying to reconstruct my grandfather's war history. He was in the Canadian Army and returned from Britain after WWI through Portland (Maine). I have a stamp on his paybook that says Portland Maine May 17 1919 (probably customs?). He had been in a military hospital in Britain before coming home so he may not have returned on a troop ship.

Can anyone suggest how I might pinpoint the details of this arrival (ship arrival information, passenger lists, etc.)

Thank you

Off the top of my head I think Cyndislist.com has a section in her Canada topic about passenger ships and the such. Try there and see what you come up with.
