Bailey Island is located in Casco Bay, Maine. It is my understanding that the island was originally settled by a gentleman named Freeman Bailey. I believe that he was a person of color.
My grandfather(whose family had occupied the differant Islands since the 1690's)also stated that all of the established island families were related to this gentleman.

I think Will Black settled on what is now Bailey Island until Timothy Bailey claimed the land. Will Black had to move to Will's Gut closer to Great Island. Will Black came from the York County area where he secured his freedom as a slave.
