Census considerations: Reuben Allen appears in 1850 Roxbury, Oxford, Maine in 1850 with Ebenezer and Elizabeth and their family. Ebenezer and two sons, including Reuben were born in New Hampshire while Elizabeth and the younger children in the home were born in Maine. Because Ebenezer is 76 and Elizabeth is 63, it is possible they are grandparents to Reuben. Reuben moved to Milton Plantation for 1860, 1870 and 1880 where he was a carriage maker He was married to Sarah in 1860 and it is not clear if he was married to Jennie M. in 1870 who was keeping house and he was married to Matilda in 1880. Milton Plantation borders Rumford and is not far from Roxbury nor is it too far from the New Hampshire border. He always had a few of his laborers/carriage makers living with him, but it appears he was the father of Emma, born about 1855; Charles, born about 1857, Mabel, born aobut 1867, Fred, born about 1869 and Mark, born about 1873. |
