My name is Charity Williams and I am a direct decendant of Almond H. Williams. He was married to Nellie M. Rideout. On April 10, 1906, their son, Fredrick T. was born. At this time Almond and his wife were living in So Porland, Maine. Almond was born about 1848, in Bath, Maine. He was a sailor, maybe a sea captain. My grandpa seems to think Almond was a Norwegian sea captain. Who is this mysterious great-great grandfather of mine (Almond H. Williams)? Why can't I find him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm beginning to think maybe Almon(d) wasn't born in Maine at all, because I cannot find any birth records on him whatsoever. I did find this:
Almon H. Williams
now of New York, NY
Nellie May Rideout
Brunswick, ME
married May 27, 1891
divorced April 2,1917
for cruel and abusive treatment
Cumberland County
So now I've hit another dead end. Please help me.

Is this the Almon H. Williams of Somerville, Mass. in 1930 who was married to Emma of Georgia. He reported being 62, born in Maine and working as a mariner on sailing vessels. He had some step-sons-----Clemons? Lamon? He had a daughter born about 1919 in New York and son, Almon Jr., born in Massachusetts around 1924? (1930 census is source).

It sounds about right. I think that is the same guy, my great-great grandfather. Thank you so very much for the information. Now, only one thing that bugs me, why did Almon tell Frederick he was a Norwegian sea captain?

Tonight found Marriage Record, Greenfield, MA to 1850, pg 235 shows Williams, Almond of Hadley & Thankful Randall of Belchertown, Jan 3, 1844. Perhaps our Almon's parents

Not our Almon parents. The record was for an Almond C. Williams not Almon H. Williams.
