A Past Exhibit
Images of the Longfellow Garden
May 6 – August 30, 2011
Over the last two centuries, the Longfellow Garden has evolved from a working yard that supported daily needs of the residing families to an unexpected green space in the center of modern urban Portland. Beginning in the early 1900s, the Maine Historical Society and the Longfellow Garden Club have developed the garden to its current form; today it serves as a reflective space and a memorial to the poet and his family and is open for the public to enjoy.
This exhibit was a showcase of historical images that traces the changing landscape that is now the Longfellow garden.
Images of the Longfellow Garden was on display in the Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. Lecture Hall.
