The Maine Historical Society offers photographic and digital reproductions of items in our collections.

Image Research
Fifteen minutes of research time is included in all orders. Additional staff research time may be required to locate an item.
Our research rate is $35 per hour, charged in one–hour increments. We will notify you if research time is required and provide an estimate.

Website – We encourage you to first visit www.vintagemaineimages.com which has thousands of digital images from over 100 Maine institutions, to see if we have an image already scanned, and to purchase and download images immediately.
Scanning – Maine Historical Society will digitize two–dimensional materials in good condition that are 12" x 17" or less. All digitizing is done by MHS staff or contracted with a local graphic designer of our choosing. MHS does not loan from its collections nor allow individuals to scan on-site.
Delivery – Digital files are delivered through our website. If you need digital files on a CD there is a $10 surcharge. A minimum $5 postage & handling charge will be added to all orders shipped by mail. Expedited delivery available, with fees added to your order.
Payment – All image reproduction services must be prepaid. Once MHS receives payment your order will be placed into the workflow. MHS accepts cash, check, MasterCard, Visa and Discover.
Fulfillment – Orders are filled in two to four weeks. Rush orders will be charged a 100% markup. Check with the Image Services Coordinator for current time frame.
Negatives – Maine Historical Society retains all negatives and rights created in association with image reproduction, whether photographic or digital.
Returns – All sales are final. Neither prints nor electronic files may be returned for refund or credit. If you receive defective merchandise please call to receive a return authorization number and instructions for returning the merchandise.
Reproduction Rights – Purchase of a digital print or file in no way conveys any rights to use, reproduce or sell an image. Please see our permissions form for more information and your responsibilities when reproducing MHS collections.
