Explore Maine
Although Maine Historical Society is physically located in Portland, we represent the entire State of Maine. We invite you to think of us as a gateway to exploring the state's dynamic history, culture, and many exciting attractions.
Below are ways to find out more about the state you currently, formerly, or hope to call home, or are exploring as a visitor. These suggestions and links only scratch the surface. If you have specific questions about Maine history and other cultural sites around the state, please contact us.
Maine Memory Network

Learn about state and local history through our nationally-recognized digital museum, Maine Memory Network. Maine Memory features more than 45,000 original primary sources from both our own collections and those of more than 270 collecting organizations and institutions around the state. It also includes hundreds of online exhibits, and an entire virtual textbook of Maine history called Maine History Online.
MHS Library & Museum Collections
