Portland History Walking Tours
Wednesday through Friday, June 1–October 31, 2022

Join Maine Historical Society for a guided tour to the city's waterfront highlighting Portland's history, maritime heritage, and authentic character. Learn how Maine's largest city evolved from a small British colony to a booming center of American culture and commerce. Famous city residents, industries, architecture, historic landmarks, social history, and the Great Fire of 1866 are among the topics covered.
Tour Details
- Tours offered June to October, Wednesday through Friday, 1:30 pm, weather permitting, no weekend tours.
- Reservations are available online through advance ticketing. Walk-ins are subject to availability. Space is limited to 12 guests and are first-come, first-served.
- Tours leave from the MHS museum store and are approximately 75 minutes in length.
- We encourage bringing bottled water for personal use during the walking tour, and to wear comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for the season and for walking outdoors in an urban environment.
- Because these tours are conducted by all volunteers and are weather permitting, we advise calling ahead on the day you want the tour or the day you have purchased tickets for to confirm availability. (207) 774-1822.
