Conveniently located in the center of Portland's cultural district, the Maine Historical Society is pleased to offer several unique venues, adding enjoyment to your meeting, wedding, party, corporate retreat, reception or other event.
Facilities Rental Policies and Guidelines
Earle G. Shettleworth Jr. Lecture Hall

A multi-use facility comfortably set up and decorated with changing exhibits. This room has a podium, ceiling projector and screen, sound system, and internet connections.
Perfect for: meetings, lectures, programs, receptions
Seating Capacity: 85 guests seated; 55 guests, table seating

Brown Research Library Conference Room

Overlooking the Longfellow Garden, this room has phone and internet connections, as well as state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.
Perfect for: meetings, small corporate retreats
Seating Capacity: 12 guests

Brown Research Library Second Floor Reading Room

A large, historic, well-lit open space loaded with charm.
Perfect for: intimate weddings, meetings, receptions, lectures, small corporate retreats, photo shoots
Seating Capacity: 80 guests, standing; 65 guests, seated

Longfellow Garden

This secluded Colonial Revival Garden is an urban oasis in the heart of downtown Portland. This lovely space features a small entertainment area and meandering pathways.
Perfect for: intimate weddings, receptions, photo shoots
Seating Capacity: 80 guests, standing; 25 guests, seated
Handicapped accessible: yes
